Working with UK Background Actors: What Indian Productions Should Know
If your production team is based in India and this is your first time hiring UK background artists, here are key points to be aware of:
- Working hours: UK background actors typically work 8–12 hour days. Overtime and meal penalty rules may apply depending on agreements.
- Daily rates: Standard background rates in the UK range from £100–£250+ per day. You set your own rates on Casting Crowd.
- Right to Work: All performers must have valid UK Right to Work documentation. Casting Crowd verifies this for every registered actor.
- On-set etiquette: UK background actors are generally well-trained in on-set protocol — no phones on set, following AD instructions, maintaining continuity.
- Weather considerations: UK weather is unpredictable. Outdoor shoots should factor in rain contingencies and provide adequate shelter/warming facilities for background artists.
- Transport: For locations outside major cities, consider providing transport or ensuring your filming location is accessible by public transport.
